As a Phoenix newborn photographer a common question I am asked is, “What do I need to bring to my newborn session?” This is a great question! Let me answer that for you.
First, let me put your mind at ease. You don’t need to bring very much.
I like to keep most things on hand in my studio, so all you need to bring are the basics for you and your new little one.
1. Food for your baby
Babies tend to eat more during photo sessions than normal. If you are breastfeeding, be prepared to feed a few times during your session. I have a boppy on hand that you can use, if you like, and comfy chairs for you to relax in. If you are bottle feeding, bring at least 2 extra feedings, maybe even 3 to be safe.
2. Pacifier
Even if you haven’t used a pacifier yet, or don’t plan to use one, it can be VERY helpful in settling baby into poses. If you forget yours, don’t worry! I keep some individually sealed hospital type pacifiers on hand just in case.
3. Diapers and wipes
Extra diapers and wipes are another thing you will need, but this is another item I keep stocked up on, so even if you forget them, I’ve got your back!
4. Water and snack for you, mama
You can expect your newborn session to last for 2 hours, sometimes a little longer or shorter depending on baby. For a new mom (and dad) this can be a long time if you haven’t eaten or don’t have a snack with you. PLEASE feel free to bring water and food with you, and this is actually another item I like to keep on hand for my awesome clients!
5. Wear something you feel pretty in, yet comfy
What to wear is a WHOLE other blog post, but if you are planning to be in the photos with your beautiful new babe, feel free to bring something to change into if you don’t want to wear it the whole time. And guess what? I have some options in the studio you can wear, if you prefer that.
That’s it! Are you surprised?? I hope your fears have been put at ease. I really try to help ease new moms and dads by keeping most things on hand so all you have to bring is your baby and your baby’s food.
Are you wondering about props? Blankets? Backdrops? Headbands? Etc?
I’ve got ya covered there, too. If you have a special heirloom item, or very special prop you want to use in your newborn session, please feel free to bring it. We will do our best to incorporate it into your session.
