Mila came into my Mesa, Arizona studio for her 6 month sitter session, and it was such a joy seeing this family again after photographing her newborn session earlier this year. One of my favorite parts of being a baby and family photographer is getting to watch families grow over time, especially when they are part of my First Year Story Plan.
At six months old, babies are starting to show so much personality, and Mila was absolutely full of smiles. From the moment we started, she was expressive, curious, and completely fascinated with her toes. She loved grabbing them, holding them close, and trying to put them in her mouth — which made for some of the sweetest photos.

Capturing the Little Details
One of the reasons I love being a 6 month milestone photographer in Mesa is because this stage is filled with tiny moments parents never want to forget. The gummy smiles, the chunky baby legs, the curious expressions, and those adorable interactions with mom and dad all tell the story of this season.
Mila especially loved her mom and dad and lit up whenever they interacted with her. Her parents were completely smitten, soaking in every smile and every little expression. You could feel how emotional this season is for them as they watched their tiny newborn grow into such an interactive and joyful baby.
Even though Mila was not quite sitting independently yet, we still captured so much variety during her session. She had fun during tummy time, loved sitting in the little studio chairs, and gave us endless smiles throughout the session.

Recreating a Meaningful Newborn Moment
One of the most meaningful parts of Mila’s session was placing her back into the same basket we used during her newborn session. Seeing how much she had grown in just six short months was incredibly emotional for all of us.
These comparison moments are one of the reasons milestone photography is so valuable. Parents are living through these changes every day, and sometimes they do not realize just how quickly time is passing until they see the images side by side.
As a Mesa milestone photographer, I love helping families preserve these fleeting stages before they disappear.

Why First Year Sessions Matter
Babies change more during their first year than at almost any other time in life. That is why I love offering First Year Story Plans for families who want to document every stage of growth and connection.
These sessions typically include:
- Newborn portraits
- 6 month milestone sessions
- One year portraits or cake smash sessions
Getting to see families multiple times throughout the year allows me to build genuine connections with them while documenting their story in a meaningful and consistent way.
I already know Mila’s one year session is going to be incredibly special, and I cannot wait to see how much she changes between now and then.
