We had the great opportunity to go “down home” to Mexico last week with some dear cousins to visit my in-laws and see some sights. Usually when we go with just our family, we just hang out and relax at Grandma and Grandpa’s house. But this time since we took some extended family we thought it would be nice to go see some of the fantastic scenery Mexico has to offer. It was a LOT of driving, but so worth it!
The first place we went to was Basaseachic, the highest waterfall in North America. It’s quite impressive. It’s a really long hike to the bottom, so we just went down to the first lookout. With lots of little kids and grandparents, this was good enough.
The second place we went to was the Copper Canyon. Being from Arizona I know a good canyon when I see one, haha. The Copper Canyon is about three times as big as the Grand Canyon and it’s all green. Gorgeous! The town next to the Canyon is called Creel and that’s where we stayed the night and ate the most delicious dinner. Seriously, so good!!
What I enjoyed seeing the most was the native indian people that live in these areas, the Tarahumara Indians. I LOVE the native dresses the women wear. The last time I went to Creel was 14 years ago, and I bought a rebozo from the street market, which is a wrap that they use to wear their babies and carry things in. I wore my baby in it and it was pretty cool! This time they had some of their dresses for sale-even some little tiny ones. I wish my girls were still babies so they could wear them!

I tried my best to be sneaky when taking pictures of strangers. I didn’t want to seem “in your face” to anyone, and sometimes if they know you are taking their picture they want you to pay them. Which is fine, but I was almost out of pesos.
Here is a little girl that just came and sat down by us. It was a rather hot day and I guess she wanted a seat in the shade, too! She is just darling.
The little kids were well trained in selling their wares. I mean, who can resist a little child carrying their basket of goods around, saying “Compra?” which means “Buy?”. I bet they sell way more that way.
This guy was playing his homemade violin and it was really good!
